100% Design is one of the exhibition halls of six at Decorex Joburg organised by Thebe Reed Exhibitions with show partners Plascon, The Home Channel – DSTV Channel 176 and The Star newspaper held at Gallagher Convention Centre, Midrand.

VOGEL DESIGN
Owner John Vogel’s contemporary interpretation of the traditional riempie chair has made him a favourite in local furniture design.  His brand new pieces are a quirky mix of functional and beautiful result in modular, organically shaped table and stools.

This year’s Decorex is bigger and better and if you are undecided as to whether to attend this upcoming weekend, it really is well worth a visit.

ASHANTI

This group of dynamic people facilitate the making of handcrafted decor pieces by artisan groups around South Africa and beyond, celebrating sustainable African design.  Oversized beanbags are made from recycled brightly coloured clothing and are a delightful way to add colour and comfort to space.

WILLOWLAMP

Willowlamp’s chandeliers blend function and form to magnificent effect.  They have an assortment of designs on show including the Enchanted Faraway Tree and the Spiral Nebula.

I was bowled over by the colour, energy and message – love life!  It was only a few minutes later that I was introduced to the well-known brand by the stand attendants.  What a wonderful first impression and an even greater surprise as to who was behind the vibe!

South Africa can view a phenomenal collection of great contemporary designs from international designers with South Africa’s top designers and they are pleased to announce that; Laurie Van Heerden of Wiid Design has created furniture for an Amorim cork-clad bar, John Vogel, Meyer Von Weilligh, Pierre Le Roux, Indigi Design, Bronze Age, Willowlamp, and Atang Tshikare are showing their latest designs and new products and Dokter and Misses have created 100% Office in association with Visi magazine, Dauphin, Interface and Gone Rural. To top all that you can see the designs which Mr Price Home have done in collaboration with other leading South African designers like Amanda du Plessis and Ed Suter at The Mr Price Home Co-lab Café.

 
Fabric, floors and walls are well covered with Home Fabrics, Black Fabrics, Romo, Robin Sprong, Fabcote, Plascon, C.O. Designs, Able Walling and Interface. And the best of South African textile designers are exhibiting too:  Ronel Jordaan, Evolution, Coral Stephens Handweaving, Mungo Design, Bead Design Studio, Ginger Cat, Design Team, Carole Nevin, Adele’s Mohair and Ashanti. 

South African furniture and lighting companies are out in full force. There is an impressive line-up of companies from the residential, office and hospitality setors: Dauphin HumanDesign® Group, Tonic Design, Streamlight, Leonardo Design, A la Maison, Southern Hospitality, Obbligato, Inova Furniture, Limeline, Marlan Teak, Mezzanine, Raw Studios, Guideline MNF, Glo Lighting, GDF Design Lab, One Good Turn, Bacsac, Tilt Design Collective, Hope Furniture, Antiques and Heritage of Europe, Trestle South Africa, Space For Life with C20 Gallerie and Amatuli.

South Africa excels in ceramics and there is an unsurpassed representation from the ceramic world including Ceramic Factory, Mud Studio, Mick Haigh and Lisa Firer. The Long Table, a ceramic collective feature by Art in The Forest in association with House & Leisure magazine showcase works by Anthony Shapiro, Andile Dylvane, Madoda Fani, Diana Ferreira, Lisa Firer, Mervyn Gers, Martine Jackson, Chuma Maweni, Emmanuel Ncube, Luthando Nyhudwana, Samantha Read, Trevor Rizzato, Nic Sithole, Nkhosiko Vulangenqhele, Clementina van der Walt and Sarah Walters.

And the line-up of the country’s best interior designers offering stylish and creative rooms to inspire for the coming season: Robert Sherwood will be designing 100% Hotel; Sarah Ord Interiors will be showing a sneak preview of her new hotel The Stack; Head Interiors, M Interiors and Karen Robert Interiors designed 100% Lodge in association with Home Fabrics and Shiree Darley’s team at DIAD showcase the magnificent interiors work in the hospitality industry that they have been doing across continents. Cape Town designer, John Jacobs has creatied a room for Condé Nast House & Garden, and Hocus Interior Design Studio, Archipelago Collective and Blacksmith Interior Inspiration have created their own contemporary styled room sets.

Watch out for emerging creatives at 100% Talent supported by Business of Design with names that are all making their impact on the design scene: Moonbasket, The Odd Table, Origo, Alan Epstein, Liquid Lighting Design, Brak Furniture and more.
