photographer PIERRE van der spuy HAS AN EYE FOR BEAUTY AND AMERICAN SADDLEBREDS MAKE THE PERFECT SUBJECT

There is a market for animal portraiture beyond the proud owners and one can see why! Have a look at the fine photography below which simulates 17th century painting through photography
Portraiture hung in a local gallery and at times sold two days later!  Pierre gets his inspiration from Tim Flach’s extraordinary work of horses, dogs and wild animals, as well as old masterpieces of Rembrandt.
Rembrandt portraits are characterised by an ‘intensity of observation’ ‘remarkable stillness’ and ‘uncompromising realism’.
Pierre has had the privilege of capturing the Cavalli Estate American Saddlebred or Saddler horses, a sought-after show breed suited to show riding, endurance riding, dressage, jumping and mounted athletics work.
Cavalli Estate is a celebration of a family’s passion for wine, horses and cuisine.  The public can visit the Estate stables on Saturdays at 11am and can include a visit to the Equus Art Gallery.
cavalli estate, stellenbosch - EQUUS ART GALLERY

Cavalli Estate aims to encourage the local arts through its platforms of public sculpture spaces and a public art gallery.
Guests that venture into the Lower ground level of Equus are surprised to find the Commercial Gallery, a hidden gem below ground.  The 600 square metre art gallery has a stretched translucent ceiling backlit by LEDs, conceptualized to simulate daylight, showcasing rotating exhibitions of visiting curators, alongside a permanent exhibition of other notable works from the Cavalli Estate Private Collection.
EQUUS GALLERY IS OPEN WEDNESDAY TO SATURDAY
11AM TO 7PM AND SUNDAY 10AM TO 5PM
Cavalli Equine at its foundation is centred on a respect & admiration for the exquisite beauty, power & harmony harnessed by their enduring companion, the horse.

The name “i Cavalli” in Italian indeed means “The Horses” and so this ethos of mutual respect, dedication & passion infiltrates every aspect of life at Cavalli.

The stud accordingly aspires to breed & train world-class Saddlebred horses; horses that singularly embody qualities of Beauty, Power & Harmony
